Don’t Get Sidetracked
Have you ever felt like you were doing well spiritually, focused, consistent, seeking God, and then suddenly, your attention started to drift? Distractions crept in quietly. Maybe it was a stressful week, comparison, pressure, or just everyday busyness. Before you knew it, you weren’t as locked in as you once were.
I’ve been there too. But the Lord reminds us in Isaiah 26:3 that “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” [NLT]
The key here? A fixed mind. Peace isn’t found in having everything figured out—it’s found in staying focused on the One who never changes.
Proverbs 4:25-27 gives us a simple but powerful encouragement:
“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.” [NLT]
This reminds me that our walk with God is intentional. Staying on track requires me to guard my focus. When I get sidetracked, even with “good” things, it can still pull me away from God’s best. But when I keep my eyes on Him, I’m reminded of what truly matters.
Hebrews 12:1b-2 pulls it all together: “Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus...” [NLT]
If we’re not careful, we’ll run someone else’s race or run with unclear vision. But God has marked out a race for each of us—and the only way to stay steady is by keeping our eyes on Jesus, not on distractions, not on doubt, and not on detours.
To stay faithful to the path God has laid before us—and that means choosing focus over feelings, trust over noise, and Jesus over everything. 🤍
Take a Moment
📖 Scripture to hold onto: Proverbs 4:25-27 [NIV]
“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”
🙏🏽 Prayer: Lord, help me to fix my eyes on what is ahead—on Your purpose, Your truth, and Your path. Please keep my gaze steady, not swayed by distractions or fear. Remind me of Your Word, so that I don’t turn to the left or the right and lead me away from anything that pulls me from You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
💭A question to reflect on: What are one or two distractions I need to lay aside this month to stay focused on what God is calling me to do?
