Called Out of Darkness
As I meditated on Scripture this week, I was reminded of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and my deep need for salvation and forgiveness.
Two words came to mind: Broken Vessel.
And that’s exactly what we are—broken vessels. We have been wounded, misplaced, and cracked as we have journeyed through life—sometimes by others, and sometimes by our own flaws and mistakes.
Although our experiences have shaped us, we are not without hope. We also have God’s love and mercy, His Word and His goodness, which can transform us and redeem all that we have endured in this world.
I am reminded of 1 Peter 2:9-10 [ESV], which says
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Look at how God describes you—as His beloved child.
You are chosen, and you are His!
Knowing this is our identity in God, we can testify and praise Him, for He has called us out of darkness and into His glorious light.
Refer again to verse 10:
"Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."
We all have a past—times when we didn’t know God and lived for ourselves.
But it is also true that, because of His mercy, we now have a future more beautiful than we could have ever imagined.
A future where we live unto the One who gave us life.
We have been called out of darkness and into the promise of restoration.
My soul cries out: "Thanks be to God!"

📖 Scripture to hold onto: 1 Peter 2:9 [ESV]
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
🙏🏽 Prayer: Lord, I thank You that You have called me out of darkness and into Your wonderful light. You are the God of hope, may You fill me with joy and peace as I believe in You (Romans 15:13). As I go about my day, may I declare praises to You and share the goodness that I have experienced in You with others. Thank You for calling me Your own and bringing me home, Amen.
